Tips
for long distance motorcycling |
|
- Plan carefully
- know your limits!
- Use a tank mounted
map case and GPS to avoid unnecessary stops
- Make sure your
bike is well prepared - good tyres, brakes and fresh oil
- Keep up a steady
speed (it's all down to averages)
- Choose interesting
roads (motorways and dual carriageways lead to boredom)
- Wear something
bright - at least a reflective belt but preferably a Yellow Jacket
- Keep warm
- wear several layers so you can remove some if you get too hot
- Don't overeat
- it will make you tired
- Take sandwiches
and fresh fruit to avoid having to queue in cafes
- Drink water
regularly to avoid dehydration
- For record breaking
runs - start in the evening so you are fresh during the night
- Head North at night,
South in the day to make the most of the light
- Head West in the
morning and East in the evening to avoid riding into the sun
- Know when to
give up and have a rest - even a short nap can help
- If in doubt - don't
do it
